It’s baffling me how in this era of unlimited freedoms, some people still choose to stay in soul crushing relationships. You’d think with all the access to knowledge, empowerment, and choices, some of us would walk away from toxic partners.
Most women who are smart, educated, financially independent, with endless beauty will still cling to partners who treat them like garbage. This happens because deep down, confidence issues and low self-esteem keep them stuck there. They often think they can’t do better.
Day after day, month after month, year after year, women accept to be treated like trash. They endure emotional, verbal, and sometimes even physical abuse, hoping things will magically improve because of praying and fasting. And in the worst cases, they stay until tragedy strikes.
The Excuses Women Give for Staying With a Stinking Red Flag
1. “But we’ve known each other for so long!”
Just because someone was in your life for 15 years doesn’t mean they deserve to stay. Longevity does not equal quality. The person you met last week might treat you better than the one you met in college who has been mistreating you ever since and cheating every Tuesday.
2. “But I love him!”
Love is great, but it’s not a duct tape for disrespect, infidelity, or abuse. If love alone was enough, your toxic relationships wouldn’t be happening.
3. “But the sex is great!”
Yeah, and so is self respect and self love.
4. “But he’s a hot catch!”
There are plenty of attractive, successful men who will also respect you and genuinely care about you.
5. “But dating is exhausting!”
Yes, it is. But you know what’s more exhausting? Being emotionally drained, and wasting years on a douchebag.
6. “But his mom loves me!”
His mom also knows her son is trash. She just pretends to like you because you accept being used.
7. “But he’s the father of my child!”
He can also be a single dad.
8. “But he will change if I give him time!”
Sis, you’re watering a plastic plant. People change when they want, not when YOU want. Your sacrifice changes nothing.
9. “But people will talk!”
People will talk whether you stay or leave and whether you die or get a broken nose. Would you rather they gossip about your breakup or whisper about how he disrespects you behind your back?
Final Word
Staying in an abusive relationship doesn’t prove your loyalty, endurance, or patience, it doesn’t motivate that monster want to change. It only proves you’re willing to tolerate nonsense.
There is no shortage of men, there are great people out here and the right person will make love feel safe, easy, and reciprocated not that a never-ending battle you’re in.
See, if he treats you like trash, take yourself out.
