Not every job plays nicely with our parenthood. If your dream is to be home for bedtime stories, making morning pancakes for your babies, and morning cuddles, then your career path has to match that vision. Otherwise, you’ll lose, and so will your kids. Simple.
This is a woman’s career chapter, and it especially fits up to your early 30s. Some jobs are hard to do as that responsible, accountable mother you want to be.
1. PA / Executive Assistant
A PA gets fantastic pay, great exposure, vast networking, but also a full-time marriage to someone else’s schedule. In Kenya, being an executive assistant needs physical presence, so you must be there and tag along everywhere your boss goes. Travel, overtime, and constant availability are what your boss will need. You can’t juggle that with toddlers tugging at your skirt when a midnight call comes in requiring you to book a taxi from the airport or do a JKIA pick up.
In Kenya, you might find yourself doing your boss’s personal shopping.
2. Travel Nurse
The paycheck is sweet, it’s fun to travel, but the time away is brutal. Being gone for months, especially for international companies, means kids (and partners) get the short end of your presence, unless your spouse is also on the road with you in the same career, any other person will not be understanding.

3. Flight Attendant
A dream if you’re single, but a nightmare when you’ve got little ones waiting at home. A worse nightmare if you get pregnant while at it. Kids don’t understand “layover in Dubai,” they just see absence.
4. FIFO / International Aid Work
FiFo is Fly in Fly Out, where workers travel to a job site to complete their tasks, usually over the course of a week or two, before returning home once the job is finished. This is mostly seen in international NGO jobs. You’re basically living out of a suitcase. Love, marriage, and school pickups rarely survive that lifestyle.
5. Sex Work (escorting, streetwalker etc.)
Phones record everything. One viral clip, and your child’s respect is gone before they hit puberty. They will be bullied.
6. Bartending
The hustle is real, and often, it’s flirt-fueled. Late nights plus shaky boundaries don’t blend well with motherhood.
7. Stripping
Trust me, your teenager doesn’t need classmates sending them screenshots and videos of your stage nights. You do not want to depress your children this early.

8. OnlyFans
Same story; digital footprints don’t fade. Do you want your child’s school friends waving your nudes around your child’s face? I hope not. In fact, in Kenya, your child will be kicked out of that school that doesn’t want association.
9. Drug Trafficking
Imagine this: getting arrested in front of your child. Or worse, raising them behind the smelly bars in Lang’ata. Even leaving them with your evil family members isn’t an option.
10. Scamming / Conwoman Life
Shortcuts to wealth have ugly endings in Kenya. The DCI will parade your ugly pictures on their Facebook and X pages. Sometimes, it turns violent, and the villagers might want to beat you up. This is not the kind of footprint you want your children carrying.
Bottom Line:
Once kids come into the picture, your career choices ripple into their lives. Lady, Behave.
Your dignity becomes their shelter.
