Before Mũthũngũ came to interrupt our systems, the Agikuyu had their own systems and calculations. Agikuyu Mwaka had nine divisions.
Most of the Kikuyu country agreed that a mwaka had nine divisions corresponding to the nine months of a woman’s gestation period, so every mwaka started with the division called Kĩhu a.k.a the big womb and ended with the division known as Mũgaa, when the crops were harvested.
Mwaka wa njahĩ was the season when one grew njahĩ beans.
Mwaka wa mwere was the season when one grew bulrush millet.
These are the 9 divisions of the Agikuyu Calender.
